  4. Is my acting headshot overly retouched? If you don’t look like your photo in real life casting directors might think you’re trying to catfish them. Make sure your headshots look like you.

  5. Do I pop out in my acting headshot? If you look at your headshot, are you popping out or are you blending in to the backdrop, clothes, and lighting? The backdrop, clothes, and lighting should bring out your features, not flatten the image.

  6. Does my hair and makeup look good? Make sure it’s not overdone or for guys too “caked” on. Keep it light and natural. In female headshots, hair should be polished, clean, free of split ends, evenly colored, timeless, and not frizzy or dry.

  7. Do I look different from my current acting headshot? If you have aged or glowed up, gained or lost weight, or drastically changed your look, then it’s time for you to update your headshots.

  8. Do I know what I’m planning to use these headshots for? Commercial or theatrical. What types of looks are you going for and why? Is this your first time getting headshots done? If so, read all of these helpful articles I’ve written here in my actors resources section. Learn more about the difference between Commercial and Theatrical headshots HERE.
